What if. . .

I have been thinking about the tension between teachers and students today.
Sometimes it feels like we are working against them, rather than for them.
Sometimes, it feels like a battle of the wits.
"Do this in X amount of time or else it's homework lab for you. "

And this thinking is so wrong, and yet sometimes, it often feels unavoidable in trying to get the desired product from the student. We are the jugglers, between the teachers, parents, and students. We stand wedged uncomfortably between them all.

What if, we let go of some of the conventional homework pressures and just focused on learning.
What if, instead of driving students to do one more problem and finish one more packet, we asked them  about their interests or hobbies?

And what if learning was fun  . . . without exception.
And the resource room was a place where students wanted to go.
And sure, students might not get that short story written, that worksheet with 12 math story problems on it. And they might only get 5 out of 10 words correct on their dictation or spelling words.

But students would want to come back to school.

And they would love learning.
And we would love teaching
again.
