Uninvited Guests

My room-mate Ana and I have had some uninvited guests recently. A couple of weeks ago, I was chatting on the phone wtih my mom, enjoying the quietness after a long week, when I saw a furry little mouse in the corner of our kitchen. At first, I thought I might be hallucinating, but upon second glance, I knew it was a mouth with its jetty mouth and squatty little gray body. That particular evening though, I was in melancholy spirits, feeling a little forgotten by the world. And because this mouse seemed calm and friendly enough, I was actually not too bothered by his presence. I watched him for a minute or two and then saw him scury to another little corner in the kitchen.
"I'll tell my room-mate tomorrow," I told myself "so at least she can get one more night of good sleep."
That next day then, we set up some traps and waited to see if our little friend would take the bait. After a couple of weeks, neither of us had seen him again and none of the traps had gone off. However, we did notice a dead mouse smell coming from the bathroom / bedroom area. I looked under some stuff and found nothing. So, convinced that he had probably died of natural causes in some wall or vent, we let it go and wore more perfume (so at least we don't smell like dead mouse).

Then, only two days later, I was making myself some eggs for breakfast. It was a Friday, and I was heading home for the day. I was very distracted and immersed in the task at hand, when a shot of black lightning zoomed across the floor but inches from my feet. I dropped the pan loudly on the kitchen counter. Again, the lightning shot across the floor, ending up under the oven (probably in our pots and pans.) And my feeling towards this little friend was quite hostile. How dare he scare me that early in the morning? How dare he zoom by my feet and then have his way in our pots and pans drawer? So obviously, I was pretty upset at this mouse, and I not so lovingly named him Grease Lightning. And unfortunately, I didn't even have time that morning to reset the traps so I put my room-mate in charge of his demise. And if I see him when I get back tomorrow, I have some big plans for mouse poison and fail-proof traps from Menards.

eww! we had a mouse die in our ductwork once - we couldn't reach it so w had to just run the blower and ride it out for several days. Eww Eww Eww! That stunk! Good luck!

(oh, and my hubby used peanut butter on the traps because that have to lick it and can't just take it - that worked well - we caught 2 more mice!)

Sometimes, it is hard to decide which is worse: unwelcome guests or welcome guests who overstay their welcome.
